Yundi Xu
“Can one even speak of interpretations that achieve perfection, both technically and artistically!” exclaims the Bayreuth critic Piontek about Yundi Xu, praising her “perfect control of sound and rhythm, as well as her refined colours and meticulous phrasing” in her performance of Ravel’s Miroirs at the Steingraeber Kammermusiksaal.
Trained as a pianist from an early age, Yundi Xu entered the Paris Conservatoire at the age of fourteen and went on to pursue an international path that led her to the Konzertexamen at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. Yundi Xu completed her training at the CNSMDP in Paris, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and the Royal Academy of Music in London, and participated in numerous prestigious academies such as Tanglewood, Aspen, SICPP, and the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove.
Yundi Xu performs regularly on major international stages as both a soloist and chamber musician, with orchestras including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, and various ensembles across Europe, Asia, and the United States. Yundi Xu has been invited to venues such as the Berlin Konzerthaus, Salle Gaveau, La Seine Musicale, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and the Hangzhou Grand Theatre.
Yundi Xu’s artistic activity spans a wide repertoire, from the Romantic period to contemporary music. She has developed a particular interest in new music, having premiered contemporary works at the Tanglewood Music Center, including pieces by Andrew Hamilton and Nathan Shields.
Her playing has been praised for its sonic sensitivity and sense of phrasing, particularly in Satie, Debussy, and Ravel, by Der Tagesspiegel in Berlin.
A prizewinner at several international competitions, Yundi Xu won First Prize at the Chopin Competition for Young Pianists (2013), the Special Prize of the Spivakov Foundation at the Olga Kern International Competition (2016), and received distinctions in Spain, Portugal, and Italy.
