Mathilde Reuzé

Mathilde Reuzé was born in 2001 into a family of musicians. From a very young age, the cello came to her naturally, yet surprisingly: at just three years old, she attended a performance of Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and chose this instrument as her lifelong companion.

She trained at the CNSMDP, where she earned her DNSPM degree in Raphaël Pidoux’s class. Mathilde Reuzé also benefited from the guidance of S. Gabetta, O. Gaillard, I. Monighetti, and P. Kopatchinskaja. In 2025, she earned a master’s degree from the Hochschule für Musik in Basel under Rafael Rosenfeld. She also studied the baroque cello with P. Collignon in Pantin, then with P. Skalka in Basel, and complemented this approach by exploring historical performance practices: musicology at the Sorbonne, baroque dance, and organ.

A laureate of several international competitions, Mathilde Reuzé was notably a semifinalist at the Leipzig International Bach Competition in both baroque and modern cello, as well as at the Bratislava International Competition (2024). Her career reflects a vision of the performer as a well-rounded artist, for whom the practices of modern and baroque cello complement and enrich one another.

She made her solo debut with the Kammerorchester Basel in 2025. Her first album, Chimères, recorded with pianist Alessandro Tardino and released that same year on KNS Classical, was featured on the France Musique program Générations in the Le Live segment hosted by Clément Rochefort.

Mathilde Reuzé is currently pursuing a master’s degree in baroque cello in K. von der Goltz’s class at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich. A member of the Schubert class at the Académie Jaroussky, where she studies with Anne Gastinel, among others, she founded the Duo Maelström with pianist Kim Bernard. The duo has studied with C. Tiberghien, T. de Williencourt, and N. Radulovic, and performs regularly in Paris and throughout France.

She plays a cello by P. A. Testore (1731), loaned to her by an anonymous patron.
