Gabriel Pidoux
Since the oboe is heard all too rarely outside the orchestra, Gabriel Pidoux is committed to offering a new approach and a more singular listening experience of this instrument with its infinite capabilities. In 2020, he became the first oboist to be named “Révélation Soliste Instrumental” at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. His first album, “Romance” — a sonata recording with pianist Jorge González Buajasán — was released in 2022 on the Alpha Classics label, earning distinctions including “5 Diapasons” and “5 Stars” from Classica magazine. His second discographic opus in sonata form, “Routine”, is devoted to French sonatas and is released in 2026 on the Oktav Records label.
Gabriel studied under Hélène Devilleneuve, Jacques Tys and David Walter at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, and under François Leleux in Munich.
Gabriel is a laureate of several international competitions (IDRS, BeTheOne, Michel Spisak Oboe Competition…). In 2019, he was awarded Second Prize at the International Competition of Prague. He has performed as a soloist with the Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle Aquitaine, the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie, the RTV Slovenia Symphony, the Prague Symphony Chamber, and within ensembles such as La Scala di Milano, the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Gli Incogniti, and Ensemble Pygmalion.
Passionate about the history of his instrument and having deepened his study of historical oboes under Antoine Torunczyk, Gabriel was, from 2016 to 2025, a co-founding member of Sarbacanes, an ensemble dedicated to wind music on period instruments. In 2026, building on this experience, he founded a new ensemble: Le Chapitre.
