Bastien Lafosse

Born in 2001, Bastien Lafosse began his studies at the Paul Dukas Conservatory in Paris. He trained with several renowned percussion teachers, including Laurent Fraîche, Jean-Baptiste Leclère, Eric Sammut and Michel Gastaud. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in Gilles Durot’s class, Bastien Lafosse graduated with a Master’s degree with unanimous distinction in June 2026.

A versatile, curious and creative young artist, he performs a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque music to contemporary creations. He regularly takes part in projects with the Ensemble Intercontemporain and performs with the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de l’Opéra de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, and joined the Verbier Festival Orchestra during the summer of 2026.

Bastien Lafosse has performed under the baton of internationally renowned conductors including Klaus Mäkelä, Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Matthias Pintscher, Alain Altinoglu, Pablo Heras-Casado, Thomas Hengelbrock, Pierre Bleuse, James Gaffigan, Philippe Jordan, Daniel Harding and Lahav Shani.

He has received awards in several international competitions, including a Second Prize at the Zildjian International Accessories Competition in Paris and a Fourth Prize at the Percussive Arts Society Solo Artist Virtual Competition in the United States.

Passionate about chamber music and exploring a highly diverse repertoire on marimba and other percussion instruments, through both solo works and transcriptions, Bastien Lafosse performs in ensembles ranging from duo to chamber groups. He has appeared at festivals such as the Festival International de Violoncelles de Beauvais, Festival et Académie Ravel, Les Journées Musicales Marcel Proust and Classicaval. He has shared the stage with clarinetist Yan Maratka, pianists Anna Pierre, Pierre Venissac and Anne-Lise Gastaldi, violinists Volkhard Steude, concertmaster of the Wiener Philharmoniker, and Virginie Buscail, co-concertmaster of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, cellist Diana Ligeti and accordionist Charlotte Leroux.

Bastien Lafosse has also had the opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas with contemporary composers including Bruno Mantovani, Michael Jarrell, Kryštof Mařatka, Luis Naón and Ramon Lazkano.
