Marine Goldwaser
Marine Goldwaser is a clarinet and flute musician based in Paris.
She began her stage career with her father’s Yiddish theater company, receiving a cultural heritage that has stayed with her throughout her artistic career.
She studied flute and clarinet at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, then continued her studies at the CNSMD de Lyon, where she researched the traditional music of Romania, where she traveled and was taught by flutist Cezar Cazanoi, a major musician on the Bucharest gypsy scene. She obtained a master’s degree in research and performance in 2014.
In 2017, she founded the group “Le Petit Mish-Mash” with accordionist Adrian Iordan and cymbalum player Mihai Trestian, which crosses klezmer, Moldavian and Romanian Gypsy repertoires. They released their debut album “Avant, c’était mieux” in 2019.
In 2021, she did the musical direction for Bartabas’ show “Cabaret de l’Exil”, performed over a hundred times at the Théâtre Zingaro. She collaborates with many artists, including Michael Winograd, Frank London, Socalled and Chilly Gonzales. In 2024, she formed a new sextet, with whom she created the show Noces Yiddish, currently on tour.
Driven by a desire to pass on her knowledge, she also devotes a large part of her time to teaching: with the association “Mish-Mash et Compagnie”, of which she is artistic director, she regularly organizes workshops and masterclasses for a variety of audiences, and has taught every summer for the past ten years at artistic workshops such as Yiddish Summer Weimar (Germany), RDV Klezmer du Tapis Vert (Normandy) and more recently KlezKanada (Canada).
She also teaches klezmer music at the Maison de la Culture Yiddish, and has directed the DidlDam Yiddish choir at the Medem-Arbeter Ring center since 2024.
She also gives private flute lessons.
