Tamar Halperin & Guy Sternberg first met as teenage students at Tel Aviv University and immediately recognised their shared taste in music, as well as a common passion and curiosity for sound, literature, and science. Over the years, their professional dialogue has taken on various forms, always with music at its centre.
In 2016, they released a Satie album to mark the composer’s 150th anniversary. Inspired by the image of Satie’s own living room—with its double-stacked grand pianos—Tamar Halperin & Guy Sternberg arranged his piano music for various vintage keyboards, all played by Tamar Halperin and then overdubbed. The album was produced, recorded, and mixed by Guy Sternberg.
In the live version of the album, they pay tribute to Satie by highlighting the many ways he influenced not only his contemporaries but also the arts throughout the century that followed. The programme includes works by Satie, Debussy, John Cage, and Chick Corea.
On piano, keyboards, and live electronics, Tamar Halperin & Guy Sternberg recreate the multi-keyboard soundscape of the studio album, and present a musical journey that is both an homage to the past and a forward-looking exploration.
