Federico Altare
A versatile and passionate flutist, Federico Altare (born in 1997) excels in a wide repertoire, from baroque and classical music to the most daring contemporary works.
Recently awarded fourth prize at the Maxence Larrieu International Competition, he has established himself as a rigorous and curious performer, committed to bringing music to life in all its diversity.
After beginning his studies at the Novara Conservatory, he continued at the conservatories of Rotterdam—in Juliette Hurel’s class—and Paris, where he was unanimously awarded his prize with honors in Sophie Cherrier’s class. His background also includes a bachelor’s degree in chamber music (in a duo with Martin Jaspard), studies in orchestral conducting, and a diploma with high honors from Patrick Gallois at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena.
An experienced orchestral musician, Federico is currently a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gabor Takač-Nagy, and collaborates with prestigious ensembles such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Ensemble Le Balcon, and the Ensemble Intercontemporain, under the baton of renowned conductors such as Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Klaus Mäkelä, Simon Rattle, Antonio Pappano, and Pierre Bleuse.
He has performed as a soloist with the OLC in Paris, the NJO in the Netherlands, and with the Ensemble intercontemporain in Pierre Boulez’s …explosante-fixe…. In the field of early music, he has worked with Lionel Meunier and Jordi Savall and currently plays with Les Arts Florissants, conducted by William Christie.
Supported by the De Sono Foundation and the Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument, his commitment also leads him to explore contemporary creation and electronic music with the Ensemble NEXT and the Souffle Numérique duo, which combines flute and computer music.
