Álvaro Pérez Sánchez, winner of the 2025 Académie Ravel Composition Prize

 

The Académie Ravel Composition Prize was awarded on 31 August, following a competition that saw the creation of pieces by the five composers of the 2025 class.

The winner is:
Álvaro Pérez Sánchez (26 years old – Spain) for his piece Sublime y oscuro

 

The jury was composed of:
– Jean-François Heisser (president)
and composers:
– Ramon Lazkano
– Sivan Eldar
– Samuel Andreyev
– Violeta Cruz

The winner will receive a paid commission for the 2026 Ravel Festival, accompanied by the publication of his work by Durand-Salabert-Eschig Publishing House.

Congratulations to him and to the four other composers who participated in the 2025 Composition academy: Luca Bardelle, Rafael Marino Arcaro, Jakob Stillmark and Suiha Yoshida!


The Académie Ravel has launched the Maurice Ravel Composition class in 2022 with a first edition directed by Philippe Manoury. The composer class is marked by French composers heritage and focus on today’s music. Subsequent editions have featured renowned composers: Helmut Lachenmann (2023), George Benjamin (2024), Michael Jarrell (2023, 2024).
In 2025, Michael Jarrell presided over the 4th edition. Students had the opportunity to be mentored by a top-notch teaching team, to enrich themselves by meeting the top-level young
performers from around the world, and to have their works in front of a prestigious jury.
