Florentino Calvo
A mandolinist and conductor, Florentino Calvo was born in Argenteuil and received his musical training at the Argenteuil Conservatory, a leading center for mandolin education in France.
As a concert artist, he performs regularly as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles, and with orchestras.
He has conducted L’Estudiantina d’Argenteuil since 1991 and the MG21 ensemble (France’s only professional plucked-string ensemble) since 2009.
In 2018, Florentino Calvo founded the association Les Pincées Musicales to promote the mandolin, plucked string instruments, plectrum orchestras, and new works among conservatories, institutions, and performance venues.
His love of meeting new people and his eclecticism have led him to develop a varied musical repertoire and to play other instruments (mandola, mandolocello, bouzouki, oud), as well as to work in film, theater, television, and radio.
Florentino Clavo has also been a tenured professor of mandolin at the Argenteuil Departmental Conservatory since 1988 and a mandolin professor at the Paris/Boulogne-Billancourt Higher Center for Artistic Education since 2008, as well as at the Gennevilliers Departmental Conservatory since 2019.
