Allen Boxer

A graduate of the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Allen Boxer is a former member of the Junges Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden, a former Britten-Pears Young Artist and has taken part in the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence’s Académie Européenne de Musique.

Most recently he gave his house and role debut as John Buckley in La Ciociara by Marco Tutino at Wexford Festival, as Sonora in Tatjana Gürbaca’s new production of La Fanciulla del West at Opéra de Lyon and at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma in the world premiere of Giorgio Battistelli’s Julius Caesar, directed by Robert Carsen and conducted by Daniele Gatti. He returned to the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence as Soldat in a new production of Strauss’ Salome by Andrea Breth and conducted by Ingo Metzmacher and performed Orff’s Carmina Burana at Opéra National de Montpellier and the role of Golaud in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande with the Orchestre National de France and Susanna Mälkki.

In 2024-25 he will give his house and role debut at Teatro Regio Torino as Monsieur De Bretigny in Massenet’s Man on and perform Melot/Tristan and Isolde in a concert performance of the 2nd Act together with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Tarmo Peltokoski. At the end of the season he will perform the world premiere of Ramon Lazkano’s La main gauche with Ensemble intercontemporain and songs of Jaques Ibert and Maurice Ravel with Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle-Aquitaine under the baton of Jean-François Heisser at Festival Ravel.

In recent seasons he performed the lead roles of Georg/Gregor/Officer in the world premiere of Brice Pauset’s Les Châtiments at Opéra de Dijon, Golaud at the Opéra National de Montpellier, Hans in Zemlinsky‘s Der Traumgörge for Opéra National de Lorraine, Robert Baker in concert performances of Bernstein’s A Wonderful Town at Nederlandse Reisopera, conducted by Wayne Marshall, Beethoven’s Symphony no 9 with the Staatskapelle Halle, Collatinus in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with Castleton Festival, Spencer Coyle in Britten’s Owen Wingrave and Frank in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt for Nantes/Angers Opéra and Opéra national de Lorraine. Allen Boxer has recorded the role of Baron Duphol in La Traviata with the Dresdner Philharmonie, conducted by Daniel Oren and released by Pentatone.

As a member of the Junges Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden his roles included Dandini in La Cenerentola, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Cesare Angelotti in Tosca, Baron Douphol in La Traviata, and Vicomte Cascada in Lehár’s Die lustige Witwe. At Curtis, he sang Nick Shadow in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress, Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore and the Forester in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen.
