Emmanuel Chabrier\u2019s Espa\u00f1a<\/i>, Ravel\u2019s Bol\u00e9ro<\/em>, Alborada del gracioso<\/em> and Rapsodie espagnole<\/em> are all works that remind us that France and Spain share a long-standing and musically particularly fruitful relationship.<\/p>\n

At the turning point of the 19th<\/sup> century, Spanish music became a creative outlook for artists. From Isaac Alb\u00e9niz to Manuel de Falla, through Enrique Granados, a whole generation of Spanish composers and performers were active at this period, spending a few productive years in Paris working on what would become \u2018modern Spanish music\u2019. Contemporaries of Ravel and Debussy, this new generation of Spanish composers ushered in a new golden age of Spanish music. The pianist Ricardo Vi\u00f1es, acting as a bridge between Ravel and Falla, introduced the latter into the \u2018Apaches\u2019 group gathered around Ravel, fostering friendship and mutual artistic admiration. This \u2018parisian\u2019 Spanish school extended beyond music and distinguished also itself through painters such as Juan Gris, Pablo Picasso and Joan Mir\u00f3.<\/p>\n
