Alphonse Cemin
During the 2024/25 season, Alphonse Cemin conducts George Benjamin’s Picture a Day Like This at the Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg, Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi with English Touring Opera in the UK and Peter Eötvös’ Three Sisters at the Salzburg Festival. He also conducted a European tour of Pierre Boulez’s Le Marteau sans Maître (Elbphilharmonie, Wigmore Hall and BBC Proms).
In recent years he has conducted Bellini’s I puritani with the Athens State Orchestra, Rossini’s La Cenerentola at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Opéra de Rouen, and Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride at the Opéra de Nancy. His repertoire also includes Rameau’s Les Indes galantes and Tomás Bordalejo’s Bureau 470 at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as well as George Benjamin’s Into the Little Hill at the Théâtre de l’Athénée and the Opéra de Lille.
Alphonse Cemin is a founding member of the ensemble Le Balcon, with whom he is notably involved in the complete operatic cycle Licht by Karlheinz Stockhausen.
He is also artistic director of Lundis Musicaux at the Théâtre de l’Athénée in Paris, where he has performed with such artists as Dame Felicity Lott, Christoph Prégardien, Sandrine Piau, Nahuel Di Pierro, Malcolm Martineau, Michael Spyres, Dorothea Röschmann, Julia Kleiter and Julius Drake. Alphonse also performs frequently as a pianist, collaborating with singers such as Julie Fuchs, Damien Pass, Stanislas de Barbeyrac and Marianne Crebassa in recital.
